What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies let a site remember information about your visit — preferences, recently used features, and (when set by third-party scripts) data used for analytics and advertising. Modern sites also use related browser-storage mechanisms such as localStorage and sessionStorage; for the purposes of this policy, those are treated together with cookies.

How ConvertMe.org Uses Cookies

ConvertMe.org uses a small number of cookies and similar storage. They fall into three categories described below. This list is reviewed when the site changes; any update is reflected in the "Last reviewed" date at the top of this page.

1. Strictly Necessary (First-Party)

The site uses your browser's local storage to remember small pieces of information that make the converter more convenient — for example, the most recently selected category, recently used unit pairs, or a small number of favourites. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to ConvertMe.org. Clearing your browser storage will remove it; the converter will continue to work but will start with default selections.

2. Analytics — Google Analytics 4

The site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID prefix G-) to understand aggregate usage. Google Analytics sets cookies — typically named _ga and _ga_<id> — that record a randomly generated client identifier and basic session information. The data is processed by Google in line with its own policies. Google's description of its analytics cookies is available at policies.google.com/technologies/cookies. To prevent Google Analytics from collecting data in your browser, install the official Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

3. Advertising — Google AdSense and Partners

The site is supported by advertising delivered through Google AdSense. Google and its certified ad-technology partners may set cookies — including the __gads, __gpi, NID and IDE cookies — to:

  • Deliver and frequency-cap ads.
  • Measure ad performance and detect invalid traffic.
  • Where you have consented or where local law allows it, personalise ads based on your activity on this and other websites.

You can manage how Google personalises ads at Google Ad Settings. Industry-wide opt-out tools are available at aboutads.info (US) and youronlinechoices.eu (EU/EEA/UK). Google's complete list of ad-related cookies is published at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Managing Cookies in Your Browser

Every modern browser allows you to view, block or delete cookies. The exact path depends on the browser, but the controls are typically in the privacy or site-data section of settings. Useful starting points:

Blocking strictly necessary cookies and storage will not break the converter, but the site will not be able to remember your recent or favourite conversions between visits.

Consent Where Required

Where local law (for example, the EU ePrivacy Directive and GDPR, or the UK PECR) requires prior consent for non-essential cookies, the site behaves accordingly: analytics and advertising cookies are only set after consent is recorded, and consent can be withdrawn at any time using the controls described above. Consent management on the advertising side is handled in line with Google's EU User Consent Policy.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy as the site evolves. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of the page indicates the most recent change.
